Pack for several climates rather than one idea of the equator. Entebbe and the savannah can be warm, while early mornings in Bwindi, Mgahinga and the Rwenzori foothills are cool and damp.
For a gorilla trek, bring broken-in waterproof walking boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved layer, gardening-style gloves, a light waterproof shell and a small daypack with a rain cover. Neutral colours are practical; camouflage clothing should be avoided.
For game drives, add a hat, sunscreen, binoculars and a light layer for dawn. A soft-sided bag is easier for light-aircraft transfers, which have stricter luggage limits than international flights.
You do not need to carry everything yourself. Hiring a porter supports local livelihoods and makes steep forest sections safer and more enjoyable. We send a journey-specific packing note once the route and season are confirmed.
