A gorilla permit reserves one trek and, once the group reaches the gorillas, one hour with a habituated family. Fees are set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and can change, so we confirm the current amount before any journey is booked.
Permits are linked to a date and trekking sector. In Bwindi, that sector influences your lodge, road transfers and the shape of the days around the trek. Choosing a permit without planning those pieces together can create unnecessary hours on difficult roads.
Popular dry-season dates can sell well ahead. We therefore check live availability before confirming accommodation and never promise a particular gorilla family, since allocations and the animals' movements remain in the authority's hands.
The permit is only one part of a well-designed gorilla journey. A rest day before the trek, suitable clothing, a porter and an unhurried day afterwards can change the experience completely.
