The Best Time to Visit Uganda

A practical month-by-month guide to forests, wildlife, rain and quieter travel seasons.

The IMAGINE Studio · 11 February 2026

Uganda is a year-round destination, but the right month depends on what you want the journey to hold. The drier periods, usually June to September and December to February, make forest trails easier underfoot and wildlife viewing more predictable around water.

The greener months bring their own rewards: fewer vehicles, softer light, dramatic skies and forests at their most vivid. Rain often arrives in a concentrated shower rather than taking the whole day, although road journeys can take longer.

Gorilla and chimpanzee permits are limited in every season, so availability matters as much as weather. Travellers tied to school holidays should begin earlier; photographers and repeat visitors may prefer the quieter green months.

There is no single best month. We match the timing to the landscapes, pace and experiences that matter most to you.
